Worshiping with Creative Journaling and Prayers

Several years ago, I took a class on creative journaling.    Using a journal you can write prayers, scriptures, thoughts, quotes and other inspirational or challenging ideas.   Then you decorate the pages with drawings, stamping, coloring, arts and crafts or what other artistic means you prefer.   This form of journaling and meditation has become very popular.

So, what does the Bible say?

  • “The Lord gave me this answer, ‘Write down clearly…what I reveal to you…’” Habakkuk 2:2
  • “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
  • “Write these things down for the future so that people who are not yet born will praise the Lord.” Psalm 102:18
  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths. —Proverbs 3:5-6

Example of Bible Journaling

So what are some examples of creative journaling or praying?

  1. Create a journal to write and draw in
  2. Use prayer sticks {large craft sticks you can write or print out on prayers or scriptures}
  3. Scripture cards {index cards with scriptures written on them—you can focus on one a day or week to learn}
  4. Prayer wall—a wall to write prayers on {if doing this I would use a blackboard that sticks to the wall and can be removed or cleaned}
  5. Prayer Stones or inspiration stones
  6. Meme’s—this is a creative form of expression you can make using scripture or quotes and it is very easy. Pray for all that will see the Meme.
  7. Prayer boxes or jars—decorate a jar or box to place prayers in

The possibilities for creative journaling and endless.  There is no right or wrong and you can use your strengths and interest to explore your creativity while meditating and spending time with the Lord.
