His Kind of Love: Cannot Serve Two Masters

We live in a nation where abundance abounds and we want what we want.

I admit that there are some things in which I’m just as guilty as the next person.

What two masters do you serve?

What two masters do you serve?

However, when we look at the state of poverty in other countries we realize we have so much in which we can be thankful.

By longing for wealth, food, comfort, and luxury we are told that we are actually serving two master’s.

To be honest, I don’t want to think of it this way. But it’s what God calls gluttony.

Jesus said in Matthew 6, ““No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

In my human nature, I want to prepare for tomorrow and the future. I wish I had prepared

It's only natural to want to prepare for the future and a rainy day

better than I have, but I have just what I need and nothing more.

Yet, I’d love to put a little away for a rainy day and look towards tomorrow.

That’s the way of the American spirit and mindset. We want to live in comfort and not struggle.

But, Jesus tells us that when we do this we are serving two masters. If we serve two masters we will become devoted to one and despise the other.

Jesus specifically said, “You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Ouch, that’s hard. Especially, to our American way of thinking. After all we want to keep up

Jesus calls on us to help those in need, but it's so easy to over look those needs if we so desire

appearances and keep up with the Jones’s or Smiths.

I don’t know about you but I often worry about how I’m going to make ends meet or what I’m going to do next. I have to continue to lean on God in this matter.

However, Jesus went on to say, ““For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

We are promised that we will take care of what we need when we need it, but we should not worry about it.

Giving means stepping out in faith and trusting God, even when what He ask does not make sense to us

This is how faith is built.

But, how do we Share HIS Kind of Love? One way is to give to those we see in need. Sometimes we have more than enough and can give gladly and feel good. Other times, God may ask us to give sacrificially. Meaning we give up something we want or need in obedience to God’s command to this other person.

God promises that He will always provide what we need and He promises we can never out give Him.

Do you plan ahead? Do you worry about tomorrow?
