J. Hannah Lloyd

I’d like to thank J. Hannah Lloyd for inviting me to join her blog hop.  Her new books Tied to Terror and Escape from Abuse share her victory over domestic violence.

 She invited me to answer the following four questions for you:

1)    What are you working on?

Caregiving has made it difficult to write in the last few years.  However, I recently committed to writing a certain number of words each week.

Right now I have three stories in progress.

1. A pioneer short story that follows the trials of life for a family on the wagon train in the early 19^th Century.
2. A romantic short story that takes place in 17^th Century Scotland.
3. A Christmas Novella that takes place at the end of World War I.

2)    How does your work differ from others of its genre?

I show the struggles people deal with in day to day life, genuine emotions in dealing with these struggles and how they work through these struggles to reach the other side and overcome.  Often these come out of my own struggles and frustrations.

3)    Why do you write what you do?

I write because I have a story to tell and my characters refuse to let me rest or give me any peace until I share their story.  I also want to inspire others that they can overcome the struggles in life.

4)    How does your writing process work?

Usually with way too much procrastination.

Usually, a situation occurs that gives me the idea for a story.  Often once I receive the idea, the characters walk off the page and introduce themselves.  I let them simmer on the backburner {sometimes for years} and over time more of their personality, characteristics and life story reveal themselves to me.

I then begin to flesh out the characters, make a list of their qualities, likes and dislikes, etc.  I also begin to search for pictures to put a face with the person, time period and place.

I have a vague synopsis of the story from beginning to end.  I then begin to outline the story in more detail and finally to write.  I enjoy writing aesthetically, and while I gently guide the characters, I want them to be true to themselves.  Often these provide many twists and turns I didn’t even see coming.
