A Living Example

For more than twenty years, I have stayed with my grandmother off and on for various

I’ve learned many lessons from watching my grandmother

reasons.

She is a very humble woman who does not like to have attention drawn to her.

Yet, I know her faith is real because she lives it out in front of all of us.  Job 12:12 says, “Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old.”

She was definitely living out where her strength came from and her faith, even when I did not realize it.

I learned much from my grandmother as a child…

The one thing that has remained with me is how without fail the first thing she does each morning is to spend time in God’s word.

  • As a young girl who had a rebellious nature, I noticed.
  • As a hurting woman, who was unsure of the future, I paid attention.
  • As a wiser woman, who is still striving to improve herself, I strive to walk in her footsteps and spend time first thing each moment in God’s word.
  • As a mentor to other women, I hope to provide that living example.
  • As a caregiver to my grandmother, I’ve learned how to grow old gracefully

…As an adult I’m continuing to learn more from my grandmother

This is exactly what is summed up in Proverbs 1:5, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.”

God wants us to learn from our elders, to grow from our lessons and to pass on our wisdom to the next generation.  {Psalm 71:18}

Is your life a living example for the next generation?  Who has been a living example for you?
