A Lesson in Integrity

Recently my thirteen-year-old nephew stayed with me for a few days and assisted me with catching up with various yard duties around the house.

While running an errand one day, I received a text from him.  “The table on the front porch knocked over and the dog broke.  It was an accident.  Sorry.”   My heart broke.  The little porcelain black and white dog had been my grandmother’s.

But, I was not angry at my nephew.  Instead, I was impressed by him.  I was impressed that he informed me in advance before I returned home.  I could tell he was genuinely sorry.

When I arrived home he again apologized.   As I assessed the damaged, I realized that I could easily repair the little doggy with the glue gun.

Pride rose within my heart at my young nephew.  At the tender age of blossoming manhood, he already exhibited signs of integrity and character.  This was a lifelong lesson I knew he’d learned from both of his parents.

Proverbs 10:9 says, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”

My prayer is that as my nephew continues to grow in age and wisdom, that he will continue to exhibit the integrity, character, and wisdom he exhibited on this day, regardless of the trials that will test him.

Do you show integrity in your daily life?
